HUMANITARIAN AID SERVICES
I believe talking with someone who’s “been there,” is “in the know” and can make a dramatic difference in the success of your humanitarian aid experience. I am here for you as a mentor, a peer and a mental health professional.
Services for Those Interested in or Preparing for Work in the Humanitarian Aid Sector
The field of humanitarian aid can seem competitive, overwhelming and a challenge. It is essential to gain an understanding of the unique systems within the sector as well as the psychological and cultural adjustments required of aid workers to best manage these demands.
I can help you to find the tools and take the next steps in helping to determine if humanitarian aid is right for you. If you are preparing for an assignment, I can help you understand what to expect, how to best manage the stressors and make your time abroad both rewarding and successful. I offer both group and individual sessions.
Services for Those Currently Working in the Field
Humanitarian aid work is characterized by ongoing exposure to primary and secondary trauma, with research clearly showing that workers need more support than they typically can access in the field.
I have over ten years of experience in the field abroad, and have gained the knowledge, experience and tools to share. I can help you regain commitment and dedication, find your footing and make informed decisions about how best to proceed.
Services for Those Returning to Their Home Country
Once I returned home, people would excitedly say, “Tell me everything. I want to know what you were doing.” Sadly, if we have been in aid work for any length of time, we find that our friends and family no longer understand us. They are no longer listening because they either can’t, or they don’t want to. You feel like a different person; your experiences have changed you, and you feel isolated from life at home.
And I understand. I’m willing to hear your stories and experience your frustrations. I'm someone who knows, listens and has been there. I can coach you, and together we can find a new perspective for your next steps — either returning to the field or reestablishing your life here at home. I offer both group and individual sessions.
I am available to talk via Zoom, Skype or directly on the phone.
